Ron Horst
President

Ron has had a career in computing since 1982, with BHP and then CSIRO, in a variety of roles such as programming, database design, systems development, and middle management. Ron did a volunteer IT project in Kathmandu during 2015, and has not been actively seeking work since then; though he is not ready to say he is retired. He joined BSOL in 2016 in order to return something to the community.

Ethna Brown
Secretary

My name is Ethna Brown and I am an Inner North Mentor with BSOL. I have been with the organisation since 2004 and in that time have mentored many learners. I am an Entomologist and worked at the Department of Primary Industries where I got my grounding in Computers developing a database of insect images for use by Field Stations. My interests include reading, sport, computer gaming, and line-dancing.

Jonathan Smith
Treasurer

Jonathan has only recently joined BSOL. He has been in business most of his working life spanning a variety of industries during which time he has always done his own books .He feels that well qualifies him for this role as treasurer. For the past 18 years he has worked for Graceville Imports in Brisbane as Operations Manager and 5 years ago semi-retired retaining the role of Admin Manager which he still does today.

Dick Bennett
Publicity Officer

Dick Bennet will be familiar to many, as he previously served BSOL as a committee member. Dick is undertaking the role of Publicity Officer for the Association, a position he has held in the past.

Dick is keen and enthusiastic about publicising the good that BSOL has to offer the seniors community. He is willing and able to assist any Hub in Brisbane looking to promote BSOL.

Kevin Brown
Hub Liaison Officer

Kevin joined BSOL in 2011. In 2012 he also took on both the Secretary and Central Hub Coordinator jobs.  He is currently serving as Hub Coordinator for both Central and Inner North Hubs in addition to Management Committee member.

Kevin was an officer in the New Zealand Army for thirty years during which time he saw active service in Vietnam, served on peacekeeping operations on the Israeli/Egyptian border in the Sinai. He retired from the Army in 1998 and moved to Brisbane. 

Les Webb
Office Manager
Les has always been involved in education. He’s been a university lecturer, tutor, taught in schools and as a private tutor. He’s worked with AusAID, (as Education Specialist), and taught in many schools in overseas countries. By training, he is a mathematician and used his maths to develop his computer skills.
He joined BSOL as mentor, then also worked on the reception desk.
 
His interests include most things academic and intellectually challenging. This also includes social media, which can be a challenge on its own, but he researches about it as well.
