Ron Horst

Ron has had a career in computing since 1982, with BHP and then CSIRO, in a variety of roles such as programming, database design, systems development, and middle management. Ron did a volunteer IT project in Kathmandu during 2015, and has not been actively seeking work since then; though he is not ready to say he is retired. He joined BSOL in 2016 in order to return something to the community.

Colin Waugh
Vice President
Colin joined BSOL in mid 2019 and stepped into the role of President at the 2019 AGM. At the end of his first year Colin stepped aside to manage a personal health issue. During this time Colin took on the role of Mentor to a number of learners. He has since returned to the Committee to assist BSOL progress into its third decade of activities. Colin has an interest in digital photography’s particularly in photographing the flora and fauna of Brisbane. He also has an interest in all types of computers, and is especially fond of all things Apple.
Ethna Brown

My name is Ethna Brown and I am an Inner North Mentor with BSOL. I have been with the organisation since 2004 and in that time have mentored many learners. I am an Entomologist and worked at the Department of Primary Industries where I got my grounding in Computers developing a database of insect images for use by Field Stations. My interests include reading, sport, computer gaming, and line-dancing.

Dick Bennett
Publicity Officer

Dick Bennet will be familiar to many, as he previously served BSOL as a committee member. Dick is undertaking the role of Publicity Officer for the Association, a position he has held in the past.

Dick is keen and enthusiastic about publicising the good that BSOL has to offer the seniors community. He is willing and able to assist any Hub in Brisbane looking to promote BSOL.

Les Webb
Office Manager
Les has always been involved in education. He’s been a university lecturer, tutor, taught in schools and as a private tutor. He’s worked with AusAID, (as Education Specialist), and taught in many schools in overseas countries. By training, he is a mathematician and used his maths to develop his computer skills.
He joined BSOL as mentor, then also worked on the reception desk.
His interests include most things academic and intellectually challenging. This also includes social media, which can be a challenge on its own, but he researches about it as well.
