Reg Trevaskis
President
I live in Chapel Hill Brisbane with my wife of 30 years Gayleen. I emigrated to Australia from South Africa in 1986. I have been retired since 2006.
Most of my working life has been in the Financial Services and Investment industries. I worked for Suncorp for many years, in senior roles in marketing and strategy, treasury/finance and regional management. My last position before retirement was as Queensland Regional Manager of Perpetual, a listed wealth management and investment provider
In terms of community not-for-profit volunteer work, I have served as President of the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of the Toowoomba Events Corporation during our time in that city some years ago now. More recently, I had 6 years as President of Tennis Seniors Australia, which administers all aspects of seniors tennis in Australia – working closely with Tennis Australia and the International Tennis Federation in London.
I am a competent and still active, competition tennis player. I have represented Queensland in seniors’ tennis on many occasions, and I played for Australia in the Men’s 70’s team, at the World Seniors Titles in Croatia some years ago.
Jonathan Smith
Treasurer
I am not going to announce how old I am; suffice to say, I am the oldest on the team.
I live in Alderley with my wife and have 2 children who have produced 5 grandchildren.
I was the Treasurer for BSOL pre-COVID and during COVID and have been assisting the past treasurer for the last 6 months.
I was born in the UK, and my parents immigrated to Australia when I was 17. I have been here so long I consider myself Australian, having relinquished my British passport for an Aussie one.
I lived in Melbourne for 25 years, Sydney for 5 years, and after seeing the light, came to QLD in 1993.
In my younger years, I was climbing corporate ladders in the book publishing field. Mid-term, I decided to do my own thing and have bought and sold 11 businesses. I once owned Australia's only teddy bear factory.
I am currently the Admin Manager for an Importing Company which employs a dozen people. This is a regular part-time position. I also work at the Brisbane Cruise Terminal, mainly directing guests or wheeling them on board in a wheelchair.
